Mom had something to take care of in Mauville City. Thankfully, she hadn't left Roman at home. He'd been behaving a bit better since his dad's (boruta maher) visit. Because of it, she'd given him some cash to spend at the Mauville Arcade. [break][break]

Dimly lit with neon lights, the arcade wasn't as busy as Roman expected it to be. A small collection of people were gathered around various cabinets. Ro had his sights on one game in particular. A newly released VR game called Pokemon Hunters. [break][break]

"Fuck yeah, I can't wait to play." [break][break]

Someone else was waiting for him at the VR headsets. A little girl, she couldn't have been much older than him. [break][break]

"You trying to get fuck up some Pokemon too?"

Entertaining herself is never quite as simple as it seems, especially when she has off-days. No visiting the labs for mini experiments, no gathering strange resources lest she end up exploding something in Chu-e Choi's house, no friends to hang out with simply because she's too scared to call them up. She could head to Raziel Beckett's house and ask to stay a couple of days to enjoy that seaside scenery, but that would mean having to explain herself as to why she'd gone missing again...

So, what do normal kids do anyways? Not many can be found in libraries without being labelled a nerd, nor is she particularly interested in competing against other kids in sports. So that leaves one location that's been on her mind, the arcade and its newly released VR game: Pokemon Hunters.

She spies the equipment as soon as she steps into the building, taking in the sleek designs and hovering close to examine the headset. "A little... I'm more interested in seeing how these work." The fly-by question is answered without the slightest bit of hesitation, her attention briefly grabbed at by the stranger's presence as she turns to catch a glimpse. "I'm Eris! What's your name?"

Brow narrowed, lips pursed, and with a puzzled glint behind his emerald greens. Roman eyed her as if she'd said the weirdest sentence he'd ever heard. [break][break]

"Huh?" he took a step closer. "Who cares how they work. That shit's boring." and far beyond his ability to understand anyway. [break][break]

"Roman." Roman smiled and held out his hand. A trap in waiting. When sprung, he'd grip her hand like a vice and shake forcefully.

"Only the ignorant call it dumb." With a passing snide, Eris can't help but stick her tongue out at him. "Being able to build your own and customise it to work better is one of the coolest things around."

But of course, what's the use of explaining such a feeling to a kid who doesn't seem to think? Even as she glances at the offered hand, she senses the malice, prepping herself for the tumble ahead. The trap springs exactly as Roman plans it, tight and unyielding as he attempts to crush her hand. But unlike what he's anticipated, Eris is yanking him towards her, stepping to the side as she twists his hand and locks his wrist in a gooseneck.

Her smile is just as bright as his, only lacking the desire to assert absolute dominance over a stranger she's just met.

Liar, liar, pants on fire. Eris's nose is longer than a telephone wire. Roman couldn't wait to crush her hand for trying to tell tall tales. Sadly, it doesn't go as he hoped. [break][break]

Pulled forward, Roman scowled. The fuck did this girl think she was doing? Before Eris can deliver him his just desserts, he yanked his hand free of her grip. "What gives ya blonde tramp?" Arbok venom drenched every word of the insulting sentence. [break][break]

Short-fused like a stick of dynamite or a pissed-off Voltorb, Roman's hands are curled into fists in seconds. The anger boils in his veins like water on the stove. An itch he's desperate to scratch. The image of him reeling back and punching her square in that ugly nose of hers plays before his eyes. But it's only a movie, created by his furious imagination and kept in check by the distance words of boruta maher. [break][break]

"There are other ways to teach people a lesson." [break][break]

Okay, dad, you win - for now. [break][break]

"Tck." emerald daggers burn a searing hole into Eris's forehead. "I'm in a good mood today. So I'll let ya pick how you get your ass kicked. Either in the game or out here." [break][break]

"You got twenty seconds to pick before I do it for ya." [break][break]

And she wouldn't like the one he chose.

Crude, crass, and most definitely in need of some anger management sessions. As Roman narrowly avoids getting his wrist sprained, Eris is more than happy to be free of his grasp, dusting herself off with a quiet huff.

She spies the fists that he's bearing and oh, is she ready to get him good if he does try to come at her. But he doesn't and needless to say, she's sorely disappointed. Oh well, maybe he's just having some mood swings, that's perfectly understandable.

Shrugging at the threat he delivers, Eris barely flinches at the rage he seems to have boiling within him. After witnessing all that she has, what's a toddler and his petty little tantrums? She grins in the face of aggression, mischief colouring her words as she slips in a few taunts to get the Bouffalant running.

"In game, in real life, I'll beat you anyways. But if we wanna save you the trouble of having to explain to your pops how you got a booboo from a girl decking you, I'd suggest we settle it in game!"

Eleven? Pff, so what if she's a year older than him. He'd beaten up two twelve-year-olds before. Sent em running home to their moms and dads, tails tucked between their legs and eyes swollen shut from his fists of fury. One of them was even twice his size! [break][break]

So what if he'd broken an arm during both fights? Roman won, hammered his point into those bullies. Don't fuck with him. [break][break]

"Huck! he cocked his head back and snorted. A gnarly ocean of snot flooded his mouth. After swishing it around a bit with his tongue, Roman launched it like a torpedo at the floor. [break][break]

Splat[break][break]

A sickly shade of yellow and green, almost like rotten lettuce, the loogie impacted near Eris's feet. "Damn." missed his mark by an inch. [break][break]

Heat rises like smoke to his ears, turning them a bright red. Seething, trembling internally for violent revenge, he stepped forward. Murderous Intent. It burned like hot coal behind windows of green. [break][break]

"Game on, slugface."[break][break]

Roman brushed past her to the headsets.[break][break]

It doesn't take him too long to make his character (an exact copy of himself) and select his weapon. What's better than a sword and shield? A sword and shield that can turn into a massive ax! [break][break]

Once he finished, Roman spawned at the jungle campsite. The biggest believer in sportsmanship, he patiently waited for Ers to finish as well.....[break][break]

SIKE![break][break]

He took off on his own to get a headstart on killing monsters.

Arceus... Were boys always this disgusting? Eris barely blinks at the sight, but she does take a step away from the abomination. At the very least, it isn't as gross as the liquified bodies she's seen... but still.

Slugface is probably the first original insult he's made, or maybe it's something he's stolen from another. He doesn't seem smart enough to think of insults himself... Ah well, Eris doesn't take too much offense from the words of an immature child! What matters is the optimisation of her character and build!

She flies through the character creation quick, knowing the menus by heart and already having settled on a weapon. Dual blades, lower damage per hit but an overall higher dps and mobility - Perfect for running monsters down when they try to escape! Even if Roman were to have a few seconds of a headstart, Eris knows that he's merely running in circles.

As a natural-born hunter, she takes off towards a different direction, knowing how to track a monster's trail and use it to plan her path. Soon enough, she finds the den of the beasts, her knives ready and sharpened with her packs of cluster bombs and sleeping powder at the ready. Elemental and physical resistance? None of that matters when she does true damage.

And with a triumphant grin, the hunter descends.

Roman played for quite some time until he stumbled across Eris again. He'd forgotten all about beefing with her until he spotted her. Perched in one of the trees, he watched her fight something on the ground beneath him. [break][break]

A mischievous grin spread along his lips, igniting a dubious fire behind emerald glass. He waited until she was mid-strike to make his move. Roman leaped from the trees and pointed his massive sword downward. Gripping the metallic handle tightly, he dropped like a comet toward Eris's head. [break][break]
